Filmed on Tangalooma Island Resort on
Moreton Island (an Australian dolphin preserve), this film is less realistic
than Gilligan's Island. Gellar got seasick on the 2 hour boatride to the island. When she arrived, she and the
main cast stayed in a solar-powered house. It was winter and the area around the house was wooded, so there was
little power. The cast had to boil water to take showers. There were also some 250 extras participating in the
shoot. They were housed in tents.
Based (very loosely) on the SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON novels by Johann David Wyss (1743-1830), the story has a Martha Stewart clone (Dyan Cannon) taking her family on vacation to a Pacific island. Their yacht is hijacked by some incompetent pirates who wreck the ship, stranding them on a deserted island. They build things, meet a handsome carpenter, and defeat the pirates (who were stranded as well).
Kevin Weisman (Brinx) was Dreg in BTVS Episodes #87, #88, and #91.
This is the only bad film in which Sarah Michelle Gellar has had more than a cameo. Troy Miller, who directed, was the director of "Tracy Ulman's State of the Union" on Showtime.
